Even at the last Gamescom exhibition held in August 2015, Microsoft announced that its Xbox One game console will receive support for the DVR function for wireless television via a special tuner. So, if you were waiting for this update, then we have bad news for you. The company officially announced that this feature will not be added to the console. Why did Microsoft change its mind?
The company points out that this decision was dictated by its desire to "focus more on the gaming capabilities of Xbox One and Windows 10". And although it was officially announced that the development of DVR function for the set-top box is "frozen", most likely, the company will not return to this project.
When Microsoft announced the imminent introduction of a new DVR function for Over-the-Air TV, it stated that owners will have the option of streaming recorded content via the SmartGlass application for Android and iOS systems or a special Xbox application for Windows 10. In addition, applications allow you to configure the exact time of recording content, make a schedule for recording, and thanks to OneGuide functions, the recorded video could be saved to an external hard drive. Altogether, DVR Over-the-Air TV would add more TV functionality to the console. But now the company wants to focus exclusively on the gaming component of the console, and more about these plans, we are likely to find out in the upcoming gaming exhibition E3.
The official statement of Microsoft is available below:
"After careful consideration, we decided to suspend the development of the DVR function for Over-the-Air TV and focus more on launching new and more anticipated game console owners for Xbox One and Windows 10. We always listen to feedback from our fans and are going to to introduce more expected solutions for Xbox One, Windows 10 and Xbox Live this year. "
