Sony introduced the new PlayStation Vita [updated]

Sony has just announced a new PlayStation Vita handheld gaming console at a press conference in Japan. This was preceded by a recent decline in prices for the previous generation Vita in the US and Europe.

The novelty is 20 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter than the previous model. The thickness of the case is only 15 millimeters, and weight - 219 grams. The battery life increased by one hour, reports Engadget.

The first new PlayStation Vita (WiFi version) will go on sale in Japan (October 10), where it will be offered at a price of 18,980 yen (about $ 190).

As for the other hardware improvements, it is charging through the micro-USB connector (like a smartphone) and 1 GB of RAM. Interestingly, in the new model, the OLED screen was replaced with an LCD.

In addition to the new body colors, including pink, black, blue, gray, olive and yellow, Sony has planned three special editions: Gundam Breaker, God Eater (camouflage) and Otomate.

Sony also reduced the price of branded memory cards for the Vita - from about 15 to 68 dollars for models with memory from 4 to 32 GB. A new card with a capacity of 64 GB will be offered at a price of about 105 dollars.

Update: In addition to the new PlayStation Vita, Sony showed a miniature game console PlayStation Vita TV of 60 x 100 mm. The set-top box supports games for Vita, PlayStation controllers and provides access to various online services, including Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited and Karaoke. Another feature of the mini-console is the ability to connect to the PlayStation 4 for remote play.

The cost of the PlayStation Vita TV is 9 954 yen (about $ 100). In Japan, the mini-console will go on sale on November 14th. In addition, for $ 150, Sony offers a set of one game controller and a memory card.
