Microsoft IllumiRoom too expensive for the mass user

Earlier this year, Microsoft presented its new project, IllumiRoom, to the audience, which immediately impressed people by expanding the gaming scene on the TV screen straight into the room, thus increasing the depth of what was happening.

IllumiRoom employs a Kinect for Windows camera and a projector that breaks the lines between the television screen and the situation in the room, creating essentially virtual scenes in the real world. Unfortunately (without a joke, IllumiRoom looks like a very interesting thing), Microsoft decided to freeze this project, because at the moment the price for the mass consumer would be too high. Fortunately, the project has not been completely closed, but it’s not worth waiting for the IllumiRoom system to be launched for sale yet.

Recall that the project Microsoft IllumiRoom is a development department of Microsoft Research, which is divided into its basic principles:

“Our system uses the decor and geometry of the room (which is scanned by the Kinect camera) to expand game reality into this room in real time, without any additional graphical processing. Everything that you can see in the video below was shot live, without any additional effects as a result of post-production. ”
