Kinect will be used to prevent bullying

Microsoft's game sensor has long been used not only for games. He has proven himself in such areas as theatrical productions, the study of sign language, medicine. As it turned out, he can handle security too.

Based on Kinect, the University of Virginia developed the Kintence system, which is able to recognize sudden movements or human strikes, reports newscientist.com. The system analyzes in real-time the 3D structure of the skeleton and then uses its own algorithms to determine the aggressive movements of a person, such as kicking, pushing or throwing.

Unlike Kinect, when using Kintence there is no need to be directly facing the camera. Tests of the system showed that it determines the kick in 90% of cases. It can also cope with the definition of other aggressive actions, albeit with less success. Initially, the system was designed to control riotous patients, but it may well be used on the streets, in bars and at public events.

“Initially, video and audio sensors were designed for entertainment, but now it is a powerful platform for use in various areas of our life, including in the field of health,” says Jack Stankovic.

The creator of Kintence plans to introduce into the system the possibility of determining verbal aggression, to identify conversations on high tones and insults. So in the future it will be necessary to think a hundred times before getting into a fight in a public place.
