The Xbox One game console went on sale just a week ago. Despite the many difficulties and misunderstandings on the part of the public, Microsoft organized a rather bright console launch and even sold about a million consoles during the first 24 hours. Of course, such a high-profile event simply could not fail to attract the attention of numerous hackers and distributors of pirated games, who immediately began to explore the new console for vulnerabilities and loopholes.
Console piracy in recent years has grown significantly due to the final and irrevocable hacking of the Playstation 3. The Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii were cracked almost at the very beginning. Xbox 360 learned how to solder in such a way that it launches images of pirated games directly from an external hard drive (this modification of the console is called JTAG). Nintendo Wii also taught to do this without any problems. And only one Playstation 3 lasted more than four years before the hackers managed to bypass all the protective systems incorporated in it.
The new generation of gaming devices, of course, is a tasty morsel and a forbidden fruit for many hacker enthusiasts. And it's not even their wrongful intentions. For them, this is nothing more than a sporting interest: will I be able to bypass the protection developed in such giant companies as Sony and Microsoft?
Microsoft in May of this year at the very first presentation of Xbox One said that the company plans to fight piracy with the help of a permanent connection to the Internet. Without connection to the Network, it will be possible to play games only for 24 hours, after which the console will become completely useless. After the public’s negative reaction to such a statement, the Microsoft leadership had to take back its words and remove all DRM protection mechanisms from its console.
Be that as it may, hackers from the German portal konsolen-junkies.de have already managed to remove the full dump of the NAND memory of the Xbox One console. NAND-memory, in this case, the very place where the operating system of the console and all its vital components are stored, which allow it to fully function.
It turned out that the Xbox One operating system weighs 4.9 GB, and you can remove this dump using a slightly modified method that was used during the Xbox 360. The console’s NAND memory also contains important data such as drive information, and also its serial number, which in the previous generation strongly played into the hands of pirates.
Let me remind you that shortly before this, the well-known hacker C4eva managed to bypass the protection of the Call of Duty: Ghosts game disc, and even removed a full-fledged image from it, which was then put into free Internet access.
Apparently, very soon the hacker community will solve all the riddles that Xbox One has in it, and then, you see, the games for this console will start appearing on large torrent trackers. As for the Playstation 4, no information has yet been received regarding its hacking. But, as you and I know perfectly well, no one is immune from this.
