We already talked about what you should know before buying a Playstation 4. It's time for a short briefing on the next-generation second console, the Xbox One. As part of this material, I specifically highlighted the most interesting points that consumers should know.
1. What is included?
The Xbox One comes bundled with one gaming controller, a second-generation Kinect camera, an HDMI cable, a power cable and a power supply. Also included is a headset to communicate with other players. By the way, this headset was originally wanted to be excluded from the kit, since Microsoft tried to meet the price of 499 dollars, and the headset slightly went beyond this price frame. But in the end everything went well, and decided to leave the headset.
2. Mandatory update
Immediately after the purchase and connection of Xbox One, you will have to download and install a mandatory update that will make active many blocked features of the console. Likewise, the update should have been installed by the owners of the Playstation 4, as well as the Nintendo Wii U. The patch for the Xbox One weighs about 500 megabytes. It will download and install, depending on the speed of your Internet, on average in 15-20 minutes. Without installing this patch, you will not be able to play the games, as the console will require you to install it.
3. Digital downloads and content storage
Players will be able to purchase almost all games in the digital version right on the day of their release. There are no regional restrictions, as is the case with the Playstation 4, the console will not. Microsoft has confirmed that they will allow external hard drives to be connected to the console in order to store purchased games on them when the space on the Xbox One internal hard drive is over. The right decision, given that absolutely all games require full mandatory installation on the hard disk. We remind you that a 500 GB HDD is built into the console, which you do not have the right to replace with a larger drive. At the very beginning of sales, the ability to connect an external drive will not be, but it will appear with the release of subsequent updates.
4. 21 games will be available at the start.
November 22, simultaneously with the launch of Xbox One, 21 games will arrive in stores and the Xbox Live digital distribution network. Six games will be exclusive to this console: Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome, Crimson Dragon and only in the form of digital copies - Lococycle and Killer Instinct. Several multi-platform and cross-platform projects will also be available: Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Skylanders: Swap Force, Need for Speed: Rivals, Just Dance 4, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Madden 25, NBA 2K14 , FIFA 14, NBA Live 14, Zumba Fitness World Party, Fighter Within, Powerstar Golf, Zoo Tycoon and Angry Birds Star Wars.
5. Integration with cable TV
The Xbox One has an HDMI input into which you can plug in any external signal source, as it used to be with video recorders, into which you could plug in the antenna cable, and only then connect the tape recorder to the TV. In this case, Microsoft is focusing on Western consumers, who will be able to plug their satellite receiver into the console, turning the Xbox One into an entertainment center that shows different channels and can run games. You can instantly switch between the game and the TV show with a gamepad, gestures or voice commands. A special TV guide is also built into the console, which will allow you to choose your favorite channels from the whole variety of broadcasting and assign each of them a specific voice command for quick switching. While watching TV, your console should of course be turned on.
6. New Kinect
Now the Kinect sensor version 2.0 will be supplied with each console, and it is much more advanced than its Xbox 360 predecessor. The camera now sees your room from a wider angle and is also able to work in complete darkness. Seeing your face updated Kinect immediately download your game profile. He is able to recognize the voices of registered users even among loud noises, and also constantly listens to their commands. The sensor is able to determine whether you are angry or rejoice, fear or burn with impatience. He can even calculate your heart rate just by looking at you. It tracks the position of your entire skeleton and sees the tension of certain groups of your muscles. Also, the Xbox Fitness application will be built into the console, which will allow you to do physical exercises under the supervision of professional trainers and, of course, the new Kinect.
7. New Dashboard
Dashboard is the name of the main menu of Xbox consoles, starting with the Xbox 360. Now the main menu can be even more finely customized. Players will be able to customize the color scheme, as well as fix up to 25 of their favorite games, applications, TV shows or movies on the main welcome page in order to have quick access to them and not search among dozens of other icons. On the one hand, the console menu is very similar to what modern smartphones and tablets offer us, and on the other hand, the Xbox One operating system is based on Windows 8 and this can be seen with the naked eye. Microsoft is trying to make a universal interface for all its devices, and it is not quite clear what all this will result in in the end. In general, Xbox One works on the basis of not one, but as many as three operating systems running in parallel: a system for running applications, a system for running video games, and a third system that links the first two to each other.
8. Skype
Skype will be integrated into Xbox One at the system level. You can make video calls using your contact list and an updated Kinect sensor. In this case, you can even walk around the room, the smart camera will move your focus behind you until you are in her field of vision. When there is no one else in your room, Kinect will gently enlarge your face so that the other person can see you better. But if you are not alone in the room, the camera will cover the whole company and will not forget about anyone. You can also play video games while talking on Skype or even watch TV in parallel. Your partner will be displayed in a smaller window on the right, so as not to interfere with the gameplay or watching TV.
9. New controller
The Xbox One controller will contain more than 40 innovations, ranging from the recessed into the battery compartment (in the previous version of the gamepad, this compartment strongly interfered with the fingers) and easy redesign, ending with additional vibrator motors, which are embedded in the gamepad trigger. Now during shooting in shooters you will feel the recoil of the weapon in the form of distinct impulses under your fingers. Also, according to numerous requests of fans of fighting games, the so-called D-pad (cross) was reworked. Now the directional buttons have become more accurate in pressing and even more divided among themselves. The Start and Back buttons have been replaced by Menu and View. The gamepad itself has become slightly smaller in size, which, according to Microsoft engineers, will not affect its excellent ergonomics. We take their word for it, because the development of a new controller from the Redmond corporation has swept more than $ 100 million.
10. Start Date and Price
Russia, unfortunately, is not among those countries where on November 22 a new Microsoft game console will be sold. Representatives of the company said that for some countries they had not yet completed the interface (including voice commands in national languages), and also did not settle all legal issues related to the launch of a new gaming platform in certain regions. So we are waiting for the official launch of Xbox One in Russia somewhere in 2014. In the US, the prefix will cost $ 499, in Europe - 499 euros, and in the UK - 429 pounds. In Russia, presumably, the console will cost 23, or even all 25 thousand rubles. But all this is only a guess, taking into account our national taxes and other markups.
