The ban on the sale of game consoles in China was introduced in 2000. A similar decision was made due to the fact that the government of the country was quite concerned about the situation with the younger generation. From their point of view, game consoles adversely affected the mental and physical development of Chinese children. It is very strange, but in China no one has banned PCs and online games, which are a real epidemic for Asian countries.
Of course, in China over the past 13 years there was a very developed "gray market" where you could buy any game console, and immediately in the hacked version, in order to be able to run pirated copies of games. Nevertheless, Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony could not officially sell their consoles to this country.
China began a review of the ban on the ban a year ago, and in July, the final provision on lifting the ban on the sale and manufacture of consoles in the country was already formulated. The reasons that the leadership of China suddenly changed anger to mercy are still not clear, but most likely the reason lies solely in the financial side of the issue, because gaming consoles can replenish the country's treasury well. For the time being, the lifting of the ban will be only temporary, but it can be assumed that if the experience is successful, the ban will be permanently canceled.
The Chinese video game industry made a profit of $ 13 billion in 2013, which is 34% more than in 2011 ($ 9.7 billion). In light of this increase in gaming revenues, it is not surprising that the Chinese government decided to relax the conditions for selling overseas gaming platforms.
