New video game laws introduced in China

As you know, the Chinese government only this year lifted a ban on the sale of gaming consoles and console video games in its territory, after a 12-year ban. Now, new laws come into force, which should dot the i in terms of distribution of foreign gaming content in China.

According to the decree of the government of Shanghai, the new rules for developers and distributors of video games in China will become much tougher. For example, you can not distribute gaming content associated with gambling, so that the developers of simulators casinos and gaming machines immediately left behind.

Also in China, games that contain racial or ethnic discrimination are now banned. It must be assumed that shooters like Call of Duty, in which the Chinese (and Russians too) are exposed as enemies, are unlikely to be honored by the Chinese government.

The ban turned out to be games that promote the theme of violence or contain scenes of drug use. Most likely, such a hit as GTA V in the country will be sold exclusively underground and for big money.

Each video game for 20 days will be thoroughly tested in the Shanghai Department of Culture. The same applies to any DLC or patches that developers plan to release.

And finally, the Chinese government will admit to the sale in the country only those games that contain a translation of all the texts, and, if possible, the voice acting into simplified Chinese. If the developers do not want to localize their game for the Chinese market - there’s nothing to do there. So decided the country's leadership.
