In an interview with Official Xbox Magazine UK, Xbox Director of Development, Boyd Multerer, said that the Xbox One is only at the beginning of its glorious journey, and as soon as developers can fully understand its new architecture, they will be able to fully support 1080p resolution in their games.
“Working with modern graphics processors is indeed a very difficult task,” said Multerer.
Improvements in performance resulting from optimizing software for specific hardware platforms is not new. Direct examples of this result can be the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game consoles, which cover the same time cycle after their launch. As a result, developers managed to squeeze more power from both hardware platforms than they could have done at the start of these gaming consoles.
The two console giants tirelessly continued and will continue to improve operating systems for their consoles, and in the case of the same Xbox One, more and more developers will have the opportunity to “squeeze out” 1080p picture resolution, since this issue is only part of the task of improving performance and more efficient use of specific hardware, especially in the case of GPU and ESRAM.
Xbox One b Xbox 360 are completely different platforms, because they use completely different computing architectures. In other words, developers who are accustomed to working with the Xbox 360, can not simply take and apply all their accumulated experience and knowledge to work with the new Xbox One. They need to re-approach the question of how to create their product, designed specifically for the new gaming platform.
“In the case of consoles, the iron component remains unchanged for a long period of time. Thanks to this time, people open up new ways and opportunities for better utilization of software technicians and the search for new advantages, especially when it comes to the question of transferring information that is correctly transmitted, for example, through a cache. I believe that there are many opportunities in this direction, ”adds Multerer in his statement.
Further, the developer points out that the issue of data transfer becomes really important when the work begins to use the ESRAM memory of the Xbox One, as it works in tandem with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM.
In general, Multerer believes that gaming companies simply did not have enough time to test all Xbox One hardware capabilities and experiment with their products. And as soon as game engine developers learn how to more effectively use a specific architecture and GPU console, the world will be able to see game titles, whose performance will only improve over time and exploit all the advantages and advantages of higher resolutions.
Another point of discussion in this interview was the point of view in which pixel quality and picture quality are considered. At the end of the discussion, Multerer concluded and said that we all can really wait for "huge improvements in GPU performance, since the question of maximizing all the capabilities of the GPU is a priority."
