Google’s first attempt to establish dominance in our living rooms has failed. The Google TV initiative seemed like a good idea at first, but later many hardware manufacturers turned away from this platform for a number of reasons. It seems that Google has gained experience and is ready to make a second attempt to return to the living rooms - this time using Android TV.
Android TV is perceived as a rebranding of Google TV - some aspects of the old software and hardware platform will be revised again. Google promises to turn Android TV not into a big smartphone, but into an “entertainment interface” that will provide the simplest and most convenient search for content, as well as complete enjoyment of its viewing. This means that Android TV will provide more than set-top boxes on the market today, such as Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku.
According to the resource The Verge, which managed to get exclusive information about Google’s plans for Android TV, video application developers are working hard on “very simple applications for a very simple interface.” The report says that the company is trying to make Android TV entertainment platform with a more user-friendly interface compared to devices based on Google TV, whose remote controls had a huge number of buttons.

It is worth noting that Android TV is not limited to movies, music and television shows. Obviously, this will still be a video game device, but not of the same scale as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 game consoles. Google is expected to have the same goals as Amazon with its Fire TV set-top box, which implements the idea of using cloud computing for delivering games with great graphics and physics.
In addition, according to The Verge, users can control Android TV using voice. Again, I recall Fire TV, but, given Google’s experience in voice control, Android TV can outperform the Amazon company in this regard.

Despite the added voice control feature, Google’s plans for Android TV seem less ambitious compared to previous plans on Google TV. This time the focus is on ease of use. Android TV should be similar to the best set-top boxes available on the market today, but with the experience of Google.
While there is no certainty that Android TV is waiting for complete success. The failure of Google TV has put a stain on the history of Google. Time will tell whether the company will be able to make users believe that this is a completely new and necessary product.
