Sony has announced that in the near future will curtail the production and sales of the game console PSP in Japan. As a rule, this means that the prefix has become obsolete and will cease to be sold in all other regions. No matter how sad it may be, the PSP has lived a long console life - as many as 10 years.
Let's remember how it all began. Did you know that the PSP is not Sony's first attempt to enter the portable gaming market? Before that, there was a PocketStation prefix that looked like a Tamagotchi toy and worked in conjunction with the very first Sony PlayStation. Its sales are not particularly set, and the Japanese engineers left the idea until better times.

At the E3 conference in 2003, Sony announced that it was developing the PlayStation Portable, but the console itself was never shown to the public. The leading engineer of the console division of the Japanese company Ken Kutaragi, who is considered the father of the PlayStation brand, then called the new pocket console "Walkman of the XXI century", as the console was able to play video, play music and go online.
The first PSPs were sold to Japanese customers on December 12, 2004. For the first day of sales, the prefix has sold 200,000 boxes in its homeland. In addition to standard equipment, multi-colored versions of the console were also on sale, as well as special collectible kits, which were swept from the shelves, despite their high price tag.

PSP games initially rushed to develop more than 90 studios around the world. The most famous projects for this console can be considered: Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, LocoRoco, Patapon, Wipeout, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Monster Hunter Freedom and many, many others.

Over its ten-year cycle, the prefix has sold over 80 million boxes, which is a very impressive result. Well, let's hope that Sony will be able to repeat its success in the case of the PlayStation Vita, sales of which still leave much to be desired. After all, the key to success of any gaming platform is in its games. Namely, high-quality games now PS Vita is not enough.
