Microsoft does not plan to compensate for the price difference of Xbox One to those who have already purchased it

Yesterday it became known that Microsoft abandoned its statements about the fact that the Xbox One console is not able to fully function without the presence of a Kinect sensor. Was announced a set of consoles for $ 399, which does not include Kinect. But what do those people who have already purchased the kit for $ 499 do, and they didn’t need Kinect at all?

A similar situation occurred a couple of years ago with one of the consoles of the Nintendo company. Pocket console Nintendo 3DS was sold pretty badly, so just three months after the start of sales, it was decided to reduce the price tag by 30%. This led to a rapid growth in sales, which clearly demonstrates the correctness of the decision. The same people who bought the console for its original cost, Nintendo donated 20 free games for their past consoles in a digital version.

It would be nice to see similar compensation from Microsoft, but it seems that this will not happen. Journalists of the game portal Gamespot asked about the possible compensation directly to one of the leaders of the Redmond company:

“We are trying our best to convey to those who bought the console complete with the Kinect sensor the full value of their purchase. Among other things, we are planning to launch the Games with Gold service for the Xbox One console, so that the gold subscribers of the Xbox Live service will be able to receive free games every month. We can say that we reward our users constantly without any compensation, ”Yusuf Mehdi, head of Microsoft’s strategic marketing department, expressed his point of view.

Well, free games for a service with a paid subscription does not look like a reward, but Microsoft management, of course, knows better. Moreover, the Games with Gold service was almost licked off from a similar Sony PlayStation Plus service, where players receive several games for a conditional fee every month. This situation is also reminiscent of how Microsoft planned to win the war of HD video formats with its HD-DVD. Xbox 360 users purchased a special HD-DVD drive to play movies for $ 199, and when Blu-Ray won a year later, the drives became absolutely useless. Then no one received any financial compensation either.

We can only follow the developments in the console market, because now, when both consoles are the same, only the company that will provide the most quality games will win.
