Microsoft has shipped only 1.1 million gaming consoles to stores in the last three months

During the quarterly financial report to shareholders, Microsoft management announced that during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, including the months of April, May and June, 1.1 million Xbox One and Xbox 360 gaming consoles were shipped to stores.

Of course, the number of consoles sold to end users, no one did not disclose. And is it worth it? After all, the money for the shipped consoles have already been received from retailers that buy them from Microsoft.

Of course, 1 million of the prefixes sold is not at all the numbers that the company management expected. From November to December 2013, Microsoft shipped 3 million Xbox One alone to stores, from January to March, another 1.2 million, plus 800,000 Xbox 360. Since then, there has been no official data about shipments of the new console. And now the light has been shed on the sales situation - things are not going very well. Shipments have almost halved compared with the previous three months. Consequently, there is no point in talking about any shortage of a new gaming console.

The opposite situation is observed in the camp of Microsoft's main competitor in the gaming market. The Japanese company Sony quite successfully sells its new PlayStation 4 console to consumers, while naming honest sales figures, rather than shipments to stores. The previous console of the PlayStation 3 company is also selling very well, although, of course, in the light of the PS4 release, these numbers have been falling recently.

The company management told shareholders that shipments of gaming consoles to stores were slowed down specifically to give retailers time to sell off set-top boxes.

As we already reported to you earlier, sales of Xbox One doubled after the cheaper bundle for $ 399 was announced, which does not include the Kinect 2.0 sensor. This kit went on sale on June 9, and the results really did not take long to wait. It sold 150,000 Xbox One, which is two times more than the results of the previous month.

Earlier this month, it also became aware of a global reshuffle inside Microsoft, which would close one of the Xbox divisions involved in the production of television series, and also by the end of 2015 about 18,000 employees of the corporation would be laid off.
