Within the framework of the recent press conference, the Japanese company Nintendo published a financial report for the first half of fiscal year 2015, from which it is clear that the business is continuing - let it go slowly and surely - go uphill. In addition to official sales figures and other financial indicators, the company's representatives made some rather curious statements regarding the release of mobile games, as well as a new ecosystem for users of Nintendo consoles.
How is the situation of Nintendo in the market, where competitors in the face of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in terms of sales leave the Wii U far behind? In the first half of fiscal year 2015 (April-September), Nintendo managed to earn a little more than 204 billion yen. Net profit of the company at the same time amounted to 11.2 billion yen. The total operating profit of Nintendo was about $ 76 million. Yes, this is a relatively small indicator, if we compare it with the profits of such giants as Microsoft and Apple, but the Nintendo management is pleased with the positive dynamics. By the end of the current fiscal year, Nintendo plans to earn more than 300 million net profit.
In the previous six months, 1.19 million Nintendo Wii U consoles (total sales of 10,730,000 consoles) and 2.28 million Nintendo 3DS pocket consoles (total sales of 54,340,000 consoles) were sold. In addition, the owners of consoles of the company purchased 19.2 million games. The most popular in the current quarter are the new games of the Pokemon series (420,000 copies), the fighting game Super Smash Bros. (330,000 copies), Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer (2,020,000 copies), Super Mario Maker (1,880,000 copies), a Splatoon shooter (800,000 copies).
Amiibo figurines are incredibly popular. Nintendo does not always cope with the constantly growing demand and does not have time to release new copies of these toys. Sales of Amiibo exceeded 21 million figures, but the Japanese company does not want to stop there and constantly releases new characters from their games in the form of plastic figurines, which can be used in games, thanks to NFC chips sewn into their base.

Pleasant news was the announcement of the cloud system Nintendo Account, which should unite users of all gaming systems Nintendo under its wing. Fans of the Japanese publisher who own personal computers, smartphones, 3DS, Wii U and future company consoles (NX) will be able to use one common account, which can be registered in a couple of clicks using popular social networks like Facebook and Twitter. If you already have an account of the previous system Nintendo Network ID - you can use it to enter the Nintendo Account. All your save and character data will be stored on the company's cloud servers.

In addition to a unified system of accounts, a loyalty program was announced for users of Nintendo products. Previously, for each purchased console or game, users were awarded stars (in Europe) or gold coins (in North America), which later could be exchanged for the company's souvenir products in a special online store. Something similar will be implemented in the Nintendo Account. In addition to souvenirs, players will be able to get various in-game content, discounts on games and other pleasant bonuses. Get new prize points, which so far do not have an official name, you can not only buy Nintendo products, but also simply win them in the games themselves. Details of the loyalty system will be disclosed in the very near future.

We already told you that Nintendo is actively working on mobile video games, which should expand its influence in the market and bring the company additional profit. So, the first mobile game of the company was presented. True, it was not a platformer about Mario, which many expected, but a social project Miitomo. Mii is the name of the avatar that users of Nintendo consoles create for themselves, and "tomo" from Japanese can be translated as "friend". The game will be released in the spring of 2016 for Japanese users and is something like the popular on the pocket console game Tomodachi Life, where the user creates his own character and watches his life, affecting some of its parameters. Surprisingly simple concept fell in the heart of the fans of the company, and the game at one time sold in a few million copies. Now something similar will be available to smartphone owners. I'm not sure that the project will become very popular in the West or in Europe, but in Japan it will certainly find admirers.

Among other things, the new president of Nintendo, Tatsumi Kimishima, mentioned several new games for the current generation of consoles of 3DS and Wii U, which are currently under development, but have not yet been announced. This is rather strange in the light of the fact that the new console, codenamed NX, can be announced as early as next year. If you believe the rumors, it will be a hybrid of home and pocket consoles. Part of the console can be taken with you on the road and finish the game, say, in the subway or on the bus. But for now all this is purely speculative information. In any case, we follow the news with interest and look forward to unexpected announcements from Nintendo.
