It seems that Microsoft will have to make a lot of efforts to return the popularity of its Xbox One game console, since the latest reports for the second quarter of 2016 indicate that revenues from the console sales and revenue from the game direction of the company decreased by 9 percent compared to the same period last year. All this led to the fact that during this fourth financial quarter the company "received less" about 152 million dollars. Microsoft is confident that they will be able to compensate for the decline in revenues by releasing a more compact version of the Xbox One S console soon after it reaches the store shelves. During the E3 gaming exhibition, the company also introduced Project Scorpio, a new, more powerful and VR-oriented set-top box that will be fully compatible with Xbox One games and will go on sale next summer. This fact could also affect the company's revenue from sales of the current version of the Xbox One.
In general, Microsoft's game console of the new generation has already seen a hard life. Despite a very good start in the beginning, the company made several critical marketing mistakes, which ultimately led to what is now being observed. Perhaps the most important mistake was that the prefix from Microsoft at the start of sales was $ 100 more expensive than its main competitor in the face of the PlayStation 4 game console from Sony and, in addition, was "forcibly" equipped with the Kinect system. This system of motion capture showed itself not from the best side (glitches in work, not always defined and captured movements), and so Microsoft decided to quickly abandon it, having ceased to put it in the kit with the prefix itself.
Since then, the company has tried in every possible way to return the hearts of its fans and win new ones. Now Microsoft, as stated at a recent press conference at E3 Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox department, the company focused exclusively on games. Moreover, the company has taken big steps to make Xbox One and PC more friendly with the new Xbox Play Anywhere policy. According to the new policy, the release of new exclusive titles will be made simultaneously for both the set-top box and for personal computers. In addition, when buying a game with the appropriate notation Xbox Play Anywhere, buyers can get this game simultaneously on two platforms at once. Such a statement caused some anger from adherents of the console wars, but from the mainstream audience of the players such a strategy was adopted very positively.
