That ended the next game era. Microsoft officially ceased production of the Xbox 360 after a little more than 10 years from the time it first went on sale. As explained in the company, the support of the product ten years ago is not worth the effort that the company continued to invest. Especially when you consider that the market already has consoles of a new generation.
Microsoft will continue to sell the remaining Xbox 360 consoles and games to it until they fully end up in warehouses, and Xbox Live support (including free distribution of games with Gold status) will continue, at least in the foreseeable future.
The step of stopping the production of the Xbox 360 is quite obvious and logical. Recently, Microsoft has paid special attention to the backward compatibility of games with the old console with the new Xbox One, and the price reduction for the latter deprives the sense of purchasing the Xbox 360 as a budget gaming system. Moreover, even those developers who have previously expressed support for backwards compatibility between the old and the new console seem to be starting to quietly abandon this opportunity and are devoting time to the modern platform. This in general and makes it not entirely appropriate to support the old equipment.
It should be noted that the Xbox 360 is by far the most successful game console of Microsoft. In total, more than 84 million copies of the gaming console were sold (as of June 2014). In many markets, including the North American, the Xbox 360 sold much better than its main competitor in the face of PlayStation 3 from Sony. Much credit to this should be attributed to such game titles as Gears of War, Forza Motorsport and Halo.
