Production of the PlayStation 3 gaming console in Japan is coming to an end soon

Game console of the new generation PlayStation 4 from the Japanese company Sony has already turned 3 years old, but the production of the previous generation of the home game console - PlayStation 3 - continues. And yet all good things end sooner or later. The Japanese department of Sony announced that the production and distribution of PS3 in Japan will soon be completed.

As expected, the PS3 was best sold in its homeland, where it did not give up the number of copies sold during the first year of release, even the extremely successful PlayStation 4. Of course, now the situation is completely on the PS4 side, but the fact that PS3 was successful for Sony, you will not take it.

At the moment, however, it is not known that the decision to stop production and sales of PS3 in Japan will mean for the Western market, but it can be assumed that Sony will soon cease distributing the previous generation of the console in other markets. And given that in addition to the original version of the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Slim (more compact and slightly improved), as well as PlayStation 4 Pro (which supports 4K resolutions in games and is more powerful than previous versions) clear that Sony is already fully ready to leave the past and focus its resources on supporting the current generation of consoles.

In general, the situation in the PS4 looks much better on the background of its main competitor in the face of the console Xbox One from Microsoft. The latest data on the Japanese console (on January 1, 2017) indicate that the console has sold worldwide in a circulation of 53.4 million copies. Data on the Xbox One, in turn (in January 2016), speak of 18 million sold consoles. Now the situation for Xbox One should definitely be better (especially after the release of Slim-version of the console, which managed to get rid of some of the shortcomings of the original version), but Microsoft for some reason reluctantly shares its sales statistics.
